LONDON: King Charles III will be crowned at Westminster Abbey today which will be attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The coronation ceremony will begin at 10:00 GMT and it will be a manifestation of religious rituals and royal splendor. Charles will be the 40th monarch to be crowned at Westminster Abbey in a succession that began in 1066. Â
According to reports, the royal carriage route will be opened to the public with millions of people flocking to central London to catch a glimpse of King Charles.
King Charles’ motorcade will travel 2 kilometers from Buckingham Palace and arrive at Westminster Abbey at 11:00 a.m. The coronation ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Westminster Abbey.
After the coronation of British King Charles, there will be a church service led by the clergy of the Church of England and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, which will continue until one o’clock. At the event, King Charles will break from tradition and wear military clothing.
Around 4,000 members of the UK Armed Forces are said to be taking part in what the Ministry of Defense has described as the largest military turnout of its kind.
At various stages of the coronation ceremony, the monarch will be presented with historical items, King Charles will be crowned with the historic St. Edward’s Crown after taking the oath, bugles will be blown across the country and a cannon salute will also be fired after the coronation. will
The flypast will also include aerobatic Red Arrows aircraft, with celebrations continuing on Sunday after the coronation, with ‘Big Coronation Lunches’ and ‘Street Parties’ taking place across the UK.
A ‘Coronation Concert’ will be held at Windsor Castle at eight o’clock on Sunday, in which 1,000 people will participate, while Monday, May 8, will be a public holiday across the UK.
