LAHORE: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has announced suspending court arrest (jail bharo) movement after today’s Supreme Court (SC) verdict in which the Election Commission of Pakistan has been ordered to hold elections in KP and Punjab within 90 days.

The court arrest movement was announced by Imran Khan on February 17 after lamenting the ECP for its reluctance to announce the date for elections in Punjab and KP despite the fact that assemblies in both of the provinces were dissolved weeks ago.
The Jail Bharo movement was launched from February 22 when senior leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar and others got voluntarily arrested in Lahore, and were later shifted to Attock and Rajanpur jails.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Imran Khan welcomed the SC judgement, saying it was the responsibility of the apex court to uphold Constitution, and they valiantly did it through their judgement.

Referring to the SC verdict, Khan said “it is an assertion rule of law in Pakistan,” adding that “we are suspending our j ail Bharo (court arrest) movement and moving forward with election campaigns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
