Dar meets President Alvi, discusses budgetary matters

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar called on President Arif Alvi at the President House in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The meeting came in the backdrop of reports that in order to comply with the IMF conditions to generate additional revenue, the government was all set to bring the first Tax Amendment Ordinance, 2023, and approval, the ordinance would come into effect from February 15.

According to multiple media reports, country’s present economic situation as well as ways and measures to overcome the crisis came under discussion at the meeting.

TV channels quoted anonymous sources as reporting that the finance minister briefed the president about the negotiations underway with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

They added that Dar stressed the need for a ‘Meesaqe Maeshat’ (Charter of Economy) between all political parties for the betterment of the country’s economy.

Earlier, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf Tuesday arrived at the President’s House to hold a meeting with President Arif Alvi.

Important matters relating to the political situation of the country and the parliamentary affairs were discussed during the meeting.
