Punjab CTD issues yearly report, claims 1225 IBOs, over 600 arrests

LAHORE: The Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Monday released the annual performance report of 2022, claiming to have conducted some 1225 intelligence based operations (IBOs) in which more than 600 suspects including terrorists were arrested.

According to details made available with MM News, the operation wing of CTD Punjab added 105 suspicious persons and 354 seminaries in the Fourth Schedule list, apart from this, 1,225 Intelligence-Based Operations (IBO) were conducted across Punjab, in which 244 suspects were arrested, 197 cases were registered and 782 recoveries were made. 

The report says that the Punjab CTD’s investigation wing has registered 205 cases against suspects involved in terrorism, while 246 terrorists were arrested, out of which 183 persons were challaned and also investigations are in progress for trial in 22 cases.

The report  further stated that the Punjab CTD recovered a huge amount of explosives last year-a total of 64.36 kg of explosives, 48 hand grenades – 253 detonators, 7 batteries and 215 meters of prima cord , 3 SMGs, 40 pistols, 324 Bullets, 03 magazines were recovered from the possession of terrorists, adding that Punjab CTD arrested 20 proclaimed offenders, three proclaimed offenders included in Red Book were also killed in police encounter, 13 suspects involved in head money cases were traced, While 16 cases of head money were completed, red notices were issued to six accused and investigations were started to issue red notices to seven more accused.

On January 20, 2022, Punjab CTD arrested the accused Abdul Razzaq and Sanaullah, who were involved in the Anarkali bomb blast, (who were later killed in a police encounter when they resisted during the recovery of the explosives from them).

The report states that the main accused Peter Parul and his accomplices Ziaullah, Eid Gul, Ayesha and Sajid involved in the bomb blast in Johar Town E-Block were also arrested through modern investigation and brought them to justice. Three innocent people were killed while 22 were injured in this blast.

Last year, Punjab CTD conducted an operation in Province Balochistan, on a tip-off to arrest the most wanted proclaimed offenders including Mr Uzair Akbar and Naveed Akhtar.

In the year 2022, the Technical Wing of Counter Terrorism Department Punjab recommended Pakistan Telecommunication to block 123,291 websites involved in cybercrime, of which 74,230 websites were blocked by PTA, the report says, adding that PTA requested to investigate 3,831 social media cases, out of which 2529 cases were successfully investigated.

In addition, 111 cases were registered, 114 accused were arrested while 70 accused were found to be involved in cybercrime, spokesman concluded.
