Pakistanis living in Australia provide branded items for flood affectees

Nigah Muhammad by Nigah Muhammad
November 27, 2022

KARACHI: Pakistani nation is the one which does not leave its countrymen alone in hard times, of which there are many examples before us, whether it is earthquake disaster or flood victims, the whole nation unites and fulfills its duty. In the recent floods in Pakistan, not only the people of Pakistan but also other countries came forward and actively extended assistance for flood victims.

In the wake of coming winter season, Australian community donated valuable supplies to flood victims. A school in Surjani town has a large supply of items, to fight winter season, for flood victims donated by the Australian community.

Nomanul Haque of Sabeel Mustafa Foundation told MM News that there were two figures representing Pakistani community mainly in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane. One of them is Rukhsinda Zaman Sahiba, who runs Mustafa Foundation as a charity there. She is the one installed a ‘Sabeel’ (charity collection stall) there

She appealed all Pakistanis there to help the flood victims. Responding to her call, not only Pakistanis but members from Sikh community also showed there support. Besides them, Hindu community, the Fijian community, the Lebanese community and the Australian Crafter Service turned out to be very supportive.

When the goods were collected, they sent the goods here to Sabil Mustafa Foundation and Dua Foundation, their partner organization in Karachi. The goods were in large quantity, and three containers have arrived so far.

He said that there are three more containers on their way which are coming (to Karachi). He said there is a Khadija Qazi Ali Memorial School in Surjani Town Abdullah Abad, where children are taught community services and scouting, as well as volunteering exercises.

When we requested the school principal, she explained the same to school children, after which they did all the work so diligently that items from a 40 ft container were kept in arranged manner in just three days. We have set up a tent city here.

Each tent has been given a name, blankets are there, warm clothes are there, this is a whole procedure, now we are going to Gumbat in the next coming day, which is an area of Sindh where there has been more devastation (due to flood), and where water could be seen all around.

Now winter has started, these people need such things, after that we will go to Balochistan, and after that we will go to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said there are warm clothing for women and children, shawls, sweaters, jackets, pajamas, blankets, tents, and warm clothes for newborns which are of good quality, available in large numbers. Even the most expensive jackets are also available for the flood affectees.

The principal of the school said “we had started this work since the news about flood in Pakistan emerged, but as soon as we were contacted by Noman of Sabeel Mustafa Foundation, telling us how people from other countries were ready to help Pakistan, we said that when people from abroad are showing so much concern and passion, our spirit must be higher then them.”

The teachers at the school said “we felt that we should do this, we saw the items and there was a large number of items for children, and other items were also included in a large number, so we thought we should do this work, the school students are actively participating in the whole process and busy with the packing process.”
