ISLAMABAD: PLM-N led coalition government has arranged 1100 containers to seal the federal capital completely in order to counter the potential Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaft (PTI) long march.
1,100 containers had been arranged to seal the capital completely during the PTI’s long march and out of the total 525 containers have been placed at 22 different roadsides so far, Officers of the capital police was quoted as saying in Daily Dawn.
They added that 140 containers have been placed at the Convention Center, followed by 95 at Faizabad, 40 at the Srinagar Highway near Shakarparian, 39 at the Srinagar Highway near the metro station, 25 at the IJP Road near the I-8 turn, 22 at the D Chowk, 20 each at the Kak Bridge and the Old Motorway Toll Plaza, 14 at the Margalla Hills, 12 each at the T-Cross Rawat, Sarena Chowk, Marg (Bara Kahu to Imran Khan residence).
They said that D-Chowk had also been covered with the containers and razor wires, adding that Nadra Chowk had been sealed with containers and that three Rangers’ Quick Response Force (QRF) vehicles were monitoring the area.
The police added that a team of 20 policemen had been posted at Express Chowk, where it had also been sealed, and that a team of 16 officers had been stationed at the Marriott Checkpoint. They also said that teams of a dozen cops had each been stationed at Sarean Chowk and Margalla Road.
For the police preparation, including paying the costs of manpower and resources to thwart the PIT’s long march, the government has allocated a grant of Rs410 million. 259 million rupees were approved for the hiring of vehicles and containers, 35 million rupees for feeding/diet/food expenses, 31 million rupees for fuel expenses, 15 million rupees for anti-riot gears, 2.5 million rupees for building rentals, 3 million rupees for others, and 64.4 million rupees for hardware.
