KARACHI: 355,386 cattle including, cows, buffaloes and goats have perished amid heavy rainfall and floods in Sindh, the Livestock & Fisheries Department of Sindh reported on Sunday.
According to the livestock department, owners have suffered damages totaling Rs23.30 billion due to the death of their cattle.
Rain and flooding have entirely destroyed at least 7000 animal barns, it added.
The destruction of sheds resulted in $8.70 billion in losses. The number of fatalities is anticipated to increase as a result of infections and a shortage of animal feed.
The country has suffered major infrastructure damage, particularly in interior Sindh and Balochistan, as a result of heavy rain and flooding.
Devastating floods engulfed large swathes of Pakistan this month, killing more than 1,600 people and causing damage estimated at $30 billion.
