Netflix has just released a cult-themed thriller and it may just be a little creepier than one can imagine.
Based on eight-episode, the series is a combination of horror moments that are a little too soft for what it is worth, and the twists are predictable.
The series takes place in Ohio where an injured teenage girl, who hails from Amontown, is found and brought to a hospital in the middle of the night.
It is later revealed later that Amontown is a town where the cult is practiced religiously and that teenager is the daughter of the cult founder. Now, there is speculation if the ‘Devil in Ohio’ is really based on a true story.

Plot
“Devil in Ohio” is a 2022 Drama Thriller series created by Daria Polatin and its story revolves around the escape of a girl named Mae from the Satan-worshiping cult in Amontown who meets Dr. Suzanne foster in a hospital. The doctor later brings Mae into her family of five; which consists of her husband Peter, who is a real estate agent, and her three children, Helen, Jules, and Dani.
Over the course of five episodes, this cult-led leader who is the father of Mae tries to bring back his daughter but when she does not return, the cult members burn one of Peter’s houses, mark Jules, and almost kill Dani.
Finally, on the night of the Harvest Dance, the cult apparently triggers Mae to come back to them, causing Suzanne to go to Amontown and save her from being the Devil’s wife.

Is Devil in Ohio based on a true story?
Apparently yes it is inspired by real events. The series is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Daria Polatin and the writer has been open about her inspirations for the story.
In 2017, she wrote a blog post titled “My Top 5 Scariest Moments Researching Devil in Ohio,” and clued us into what her research process was like for the book. Since Polatin also served as the showrunner on the Netflix show, we know that many details transferred from book to screen.
One of the “moments” she listed as the scariest was talking to the source of the true story Devil in Ohio was based on. While Polatin did not want to name her source, she said it was horrifying for her to hear how this young woman had escaped from a cult she grew up in.
Is it worth watching?
The series is a perfectly fine show that should keep audiences entertained for eight episodes. Devil in Ohio is a fun watch and will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting to figure out the big mystery.
Will there be a season 2?
The show is being billed by Netflix as a limited series, which would usually mean that it has been planned as a one-and-done season of TV.
As Devil in Ohio hasn’t yet been officially renewed for season 2 it’s currently difficult to say when season 2 could appear on Netflix.
