Tension and drama at PSG is not something new. But on Sunday, the continuous drama at PSG took a new twist when Neymar liked tweets which slated the apparent decision to make Kylian Mbappe Paris Saint-Germain’s penalty taker.
The Brazilian superstar, 30, netted a brace as PSG cruised to a 5-2 win over Montpellier on Saturday.
Mbappe stepped up but missed from the spot in the first half, yet Neymar didn’t miss when he was given the opportunity to convert a penalty after the break.
“It’s now official, Mbappe is the penalty taker at PSG,” read the tweet posted by user @Neymargiabr and which was liked by the former Barcelona star.
(@Neymargiabr) August 13, 2022
“Clearly this is a contract thing, because at no club in the world that has Neymar would he be the second taker, none.
“It seems that because of the contract [extension], Mbappe owns PSG!!!”
Neymar has now scored three times in PSG’s first two games this season, while Mbappe managed to find the back of the net in his first Ligue 1 start of 2022/23.
The Frenchman decided back in May to turn down Real Madrid’s offer and stay put at PSG. He extended his contract with the reigning Ligue 1 champions, but critics insist that PSG have given him excessive control within the club.
Meanwhile, PSG have won both their first two games this season, scoring five goals in each of these duels against Clermont Foot and Montpellier.
