KARACHI: Former Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh on Tuesday reached Karachi from Dubai, amid reports he is expected to receive a post in the next caretaker setup.
According to media reports, Hafeez Sheikh has reached Karachi via Dubai from the United States. At the Jinnah terminal, he was given an unusual protocol and plainclothes personnel escorted him out of the airport under tight security.
According to sources, a large number of policemen were also deployed outside the lounge at Jinnah Terminal. On his arrival in Karachi, Hafeez Sheikh took the protocol of Sindh Chief Minister with him.
Hafeez Sheikh, who was Finance Minister in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, reached Karachi via Dubai from USA on a foreign airline.Â
Earlier, Hafeez Sheikh approached Sindh High Court on Tuesday to seek a transit protective bail pertaining to a NAB case. The Sindh High Court granted a 10-day transit bail to Sheikh and ordered NAB not to arrest him.
As per sources, Sheikh sought bail so that he could take up an important position in the caretaker government. Sheikh has sought for a transit bail in order to buy some time before NAB could arrest him.
He went on to add that he is determined to face the trial and ready to present himself before the court. However, he must be given some time to counter the case. In this regard, the court directed Sheikh to submit a bond worth 100,000 rupees.
As per the NAB case, Sheikh benefited a local company for development of a software program, which caused a loss of more than 11 million dollars to the economy.
