PM Imran and no-trust move

Albert Arooj Bhatti by Albert Arooj Bhatti
April 1, 2022

Experts say time is not on someone’s side, it keeps changing. The principle of life is that nothing remains same, there are ups and downs with time and man has to adapt himself with time. And those who remain closed in their shell, time leaves them behind and goes ahead.

Something similar happened with PTI Chairman and Prime Minister Imran Khan. God gave him innumerable opportunities in life and he even took advantage of them but unfortunately Imran Khan was so trapped in his caste that instead of showing tolerance when given the responsibility, he became a prisoner of pride and arrogance.

Imran Khan, who joined political arena since the 90’s, staged the longest sit-in in front of the parliament in Islamabad in 2014 and used foul language against his opponents by climbing on the container every day. He was waiting for the “Umpire’s” finger but the latter did not help them before the 2018 elections.

Thanks to the Umpire for giving power to Imran Khan and eradicating our superstitions that if Imran Khan gets a chance then he can change the system. But unfortunately, Imran Khan could not do anything during this tenure except taunt his opponents.

Before coming to power, Imran Khan used to claim that if the captain is OK, then everything is OK. But after coming to power, according to him, if the team is not good, then the people, yes, only the captain is fine. The captain – who did not make any significant plans other than taking credit for past government projects, – plunged Pakistan into such a debt pile that the next generation will have to suffer the effects of this terrible era.

After the no-confidence motion, some people still support Imran Khan by saying that it is better to give him another chance to Imran Khan rather than give power to the opposition. But the problem here is that apart from pushing the country to the brink of collapse in almost four years, what else has Imran Khan done to give him another chance for further destruction?

Contrary to the claims of neutral umpires, principles and bravery, Imran Khan sometimes shouted at the Umpire for power and sometimes kept knocking at the door of the worst opponents after forgetting all the rules and regulations. And sometimes he seemed ready to give everything to the parties with 5 or 7 seats to save the government.

In the past, in the lure of power, Imran Khan used shoulders of Pervez Musharraf, Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and even Maulana Fazlur Rehman, but after coming to power, his tone was very unfortunate. Despite being the Prime Minister of a country, he continued to lash out at his opponents in front of the whole world and ridiculed his opponents in a very embarrassing manner.

Imran Khan may have thought that he will always be in power and as the Prime Minister, whether he makes fun of anyone or whatever he does, he will be forgiven. In this field of politics, they have to reap their own harvest, whether they come with the help of Umpire’s fingers or with the thumb of the people.

It is impossible to assume that Imran Khan’s intention is clear but one cannot run the country with mere intentions. To run the system of the state, it is necessary to have vision, experience and understanding which has not been seen anywhere in the four years of power. Imran Khan’s full power seemed to be limited to crushing the opposition and perpetuating his power.

Now he has the support of a letter which is becoming a joke over time. Imran Khan had only one way to save his honor. After the no confidence resolution was tabled, he would had resign and appeared before the people’s court and ask them to give him majority next time. But he gave up all the rules and regulations for power and did things that cannot be praised.

Imran Khan’s last stint as Prime Minister was probably a meeting in Islamabad for which there was an uproar all over the country. And by using all kinds of government resources in the parade ground of Islamabad, they allegedly put a few thousand chairs and seated millions of people on them. PM Imran once said governments should perform, not gather people.
