SARGODHA: A gang-rape victim gunned down by her brother in village Behk Lurka of tehsil Kot Momin, Sargodha, according to a local daily.
According to details, the victim was gang-raped and filmed by four suspects of an influential family a few days earlier. The Laksian Police Station had registered a case against the suspects but allegedly did not take action in this regard.
The accused then approached a local court and were able to get interim pre-arrest bails until February 11. Feeling aggrieved, the victim’s brother, along with his two accomplices, allegedly shot dead his sister and managed to escape.
However, the police later arrested the brother, who according to police, was planning to kill the four alleged rapists. The suspect told police that he took action on his own as police did not arrest suspects who were pressurising his family to ‘reconcile’ with them.
The punishment for a convicted rapist is at least 10 years and a maximum of 25 years but conviction numbers remain next to nil in the country. The incident has opened up the debate once again on the efficacy of our present judicial system in protecting and giving justice to victims.
