Azadi March: Islamabad police remain on high alert

RAWALPINDI: List of the participants of Azadi march have been prepared by the police, including the vehicles used and workers of Ansarul Islam and their financers along with other particulars.
Directives were issued to all station house officers along with a pro forma to provide two-hourly details about the convoys of opposition parties passing through their respective areas.

The details accumulated by the CPO comprised the number of protesters of JUI-F, Ansarul Islam, civil society, other political parties, party flags and Kashmir flags, etc.
The police also sought the names of individuals with their political affiliations who had arranged receptions for the protesters or for the leaders of the  respective parties.
Political rallies details joining the main rally passing through the limits of Rawalpindi district police were also obtained. The police were perturbed over JUI-F’s plan to pass the main procession through Murree Road. The procession anyhow took Islamabad Expressway to reach the venue of the gathering.
The police estimated that 1200 vehicles carrying 28,000 to 30,000 people, including trucks, cars, jeeps and motorcycles, passed through the limits of Rawalpindi police via Mandra, Rawat and Gujar Khan.
Details of small convoys that emerged from different parts of the district were also gathered and reported to the authorities concerned. The police had deployed 4,000 personnel and three companies of Rangers to handle any emergency situation.

Elite Police Force, Dolphin Force, Traffic Police, Pukar 15 and special sections of Rangers in the garrison city carried out a flag march.
The flag march was led by Superintendent of Police Potohar Syed Ali and SP Rawal Asif Masood starting from the Rawalpindi Police Lines and passed through different roads of the city.
CPO Mohammad Faisal Rana while addressing the officers said that it is the responsibility of the police to protect the lives and property of the citizens.
“Police are at high alert all the time and prepared to take any action under the law against any law violators,” said CPO.
