Education ministers’ meeting over closure of schools postponed

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of education ministers chaired by the Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood has been adjourned today to enforce lockdown in view of increasing cases of the corona.

According to details, important decisions were expected at a meeting of inter-provincial education ministers chaired by Shafqat Mahmood on the implementation of smart lockdown due to the spread of a new type of coronavirus’ Omicron variant across the country.

Education and training are being conducted across the country with the implementation of SOPs for the prevention of coronavirus, however, in view of the rising number of virus cases, today’s meeting of the Education Ministers to review the situation of educational institutions was postponed.

The inter-provincial education ministers meeting, Shafqat Mahmood, was also to discuss the timely availability and delivery of textbooks across the country. According to the Ministry of Education, the meeting of education ministers was adjourned till next week.

It may be recalled that earlier, in view of the spread of Omicron in Qatar, it was decided to adopt a distance education system by closing all educational institutions for one week from January 2. The closure of educational institutions in other countries including Pakistan is also under consideration.

Attendance at all public and private schools in Qatar has been suspended since Sunday. The move came after an increase in Omi Crown cases in the country, the education ministry said that the closure was decided to prevent a new type of coronavirus.
