KARACHI: It has been revealed that the three big water hydrants are being run on the mainline of the Karachi Sewerage and Water Board’s mainline.

There is a severe shortage of water in the areas affected by the operation of hydrants. The police of Site Superhighway are filling the tankers under their supervision late at night.

Waterboard anti-theft cell and security officers are not even registering cases by conducting flimsy operations, while on the other hand water thieves from water board main lines are stealing water and selling it in public through tankers and the police instead of taking action is busy in providing them shelter.

Sources said that three water thieves were operating on a large scale at Site Superhighway, Ayub Goth, Noor Khan Goth, including a water thief named Haji Sultan near the bridge at Ayub Goth within the limits of Sohrab Goth Gulzar Hijri police station. A large setup of water theft has been installed from where tankers are being filled.

Along with Haji Sultan, Abdul Waheed alias Waheed is also involved in water theft. There are big networks for the water thief mafia in Noor Khan Goth. The big setup is being run by Malik Pervez, who himself portrays as a police officer.

It should be noted that along with Malik Pervez, his setup includes Abdul Wahid alias Waheed son of Abdul Wahab, Ajmal Khan alias Ajmal Afridi son of Qaim Khan, Sikandar, Afzal Khan son of Tale Man and Niaz.

Niaz comes from Landhi every week in a black Vigo car to receive his share. Malik Pervez has set up regular filling points inside a large plot here, from where 4 tankers are filled at the same time.

Malik Pervez himself supervises the water tankers at this place. In addition to this setup, he has also set up the filling of tankers directly from the line passing under the green belt in the middle of the road, where police mobile makes regular surveillance.

In addition to this, heavy tankers of 10 and 12 thousand gallons of Bada Khan steal water from the mainline of 3K site Superhighway Phase One at night. Every night Bada Khan steals water through hi 70 to 120 tankers in the night.

Major (retd) Majeed, security officer of Col (retd) Zia Zaidi, Chief Security Officer of Water Board, had carried out an incomplete operation near Malik Agham Mohammadi Pyala Hotel in Ayub Goth against those who were stealing water from the said line. The water thief mafia has started running hydrants again.

When contacted, XEN Abdul Wahid Sheikh of the said mainline he said, “I don’t know. I will let you know and the hydrant will also be demolished.” He said that he had no information about the operation at Ayub Goth.

In this regard, Imam Bakhsh Lashari of Site Super Highway Police Station, when contacted, said that the Water Board had conducted an operation a few days ago and the recovered goods are still in the police station. No other officer has come to register an FIR. If there is any hydrant in my area then I will definitely demolish it.
