The Weeknd’s 'Blinding Lights' uncrowns 'The Twist' as all-time No 1 Billboard single

Famous Canadian singer The Weeknd’s 2019 hit single Blinding Lights has officially been crowned the all-time No. 1 song on the Billboard singles chart.

The debuted in late November 2019 and topped the weekly Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in April and May 2020, went to cost a Break the record of 90 consecutive weeks on the chart. That song has now earned ‘Blinding Lights’ their Hot 100 chart of all time, the No. 1 song title on Billboard’s Greatest Songs of All Time.

Checker’s The Twist, which launched a new dance craze, was awarded the title in 2008 after separate chart runs in 1960 and again in 1962. The decision is reached by factoring in total weeks on the chart as well as exact chart positions.

Talking about it, 31-year-old Abel Tesfaye professionally known as The Weeknd said, “I do not think so [it] hit me so far. I try not to dwell on it too much. I just count my blessings, and I’m just grateful.”

“By the time Blinding Lights happened, I was 10 years into my career and established myself as a music person in the industry,” Tesfaye said. “So I’m glad Blinding Lights happened when it happened because it was the first single I ever dropped. That would be scary for me.”

Billboard’s rankings are based on the total number of weeks on the chart as well as exact chart positions, with adjustments made for chart turnover rates during various periods.
