DUBAI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar met former Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan in Dubai and exchanged views on the political situation in the country.
Farooq Sattar and Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan held a hours long meeting and reportedly agreed to formulate a joint strategy to address the issues of urban areas of the province. They also discussed the increasing sense of deprivation among Karachi citizens and agreed on formulating a joint strategy.
The former governor said that Karachi has failed to play a national role in national politics. He urged to prioritise national interests and forget bitter memories of the past.
Sattar maintained that national issues can be resolved through joint struggle. He also suggested contacting other experienced political figures. He said a charter of stability, development and prosperity should be set up to cope with the challenges.
Last month, Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah met with former governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan in Dubai. Taking to Twitter, the Sindh minister said he met with the former Sindh governor in Dubai and requested him to return to Pakistan and play his political role in the country.
The minister also assured the former Sindh governor of full cooperation of the Sindh government upon his return to the country. During the meeting, the former Sindh governor said that his services are always available for Sindh province especially for the development of Karachi.
Ebad became Sindh’s youngest governor on December 27, 2002 and served for nearly 14 years. He was removed from his post in 2016.
Ishratul Ibad began his political career as an acticvist of the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation (APMSO) while studying in Dow Medical College, Karachi.
Ibad contested the general elections in 1990 on a provincial assembly constituency and became a minister in the Jam Sadiq Ali cabinet. He went underground to avoid arrest after an operation was launched against the MQM in June 1992 and obtained political asylum in London.
