ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser Dr Moeed Yusuf said that Afghan women and children were in dire need of assistance and the world community must come up with a plan to avert any humanitarian crisis in the country.
He stated this while talking to a five-member US delegation led by Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West. Both sides discussed the prevailing situation in Afghanistan during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Moeed Yusuf suggested that world needed to devise a system through which aid could reach Afghans before a spike in the winter season. He emphasised that the world needs to engage constructively with Taliban to avert the risk of instability and return of terrorism.
“Taliban need to be included in constructive dialogue because the political vacuum and instability will prove to be beneficial for terrorist organizations,” Dr Moeed Yusuf said.
The National Security Advisor said the gaps left by the political vacuum and instability in Afghanistan would be beneficial for terrorist organisations. Moeed Yusuf said stable and peaceful Afghanistan is not only in best interest of Pakistan rather the whole world.
Both sides agreed upon building strong bilateral ties based on mutual respect and showed determination to cooperate in all important areas.
‘Averting crisis in Afghanistan’
Earlier Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the international community to fulfill its collective responsibility to avert a grave humanitarian crisis confronting people of Afghanistan.
In a tweet on Thursday, the prime minister said Pakistan has always stood with the Afghan people in their hour of need. PM Imran Khan said they have assured Afghan acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi and his delegation to provide all possible humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
He said the government is sending essential food items, emergency medical supplies and winter shelters to provide immediate relief to Afghan people. He said they will also provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all Afghans travelling across the border into Pakistan
