SHORKOT: A Nankana-bound special train carrying Sikh pilgrims derailed beween Pir Mahal and Shorkot here on Saturday morning.
Pakistan Railways spokesperson said the special train carrying Sikh pilgrims was on its way to Nankana Sahib from Karachi when 9 of its bogies derailed between Shorkot and Pir Mahl railway stations. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
Rescue teams rushed to the site of the incident and launched relief operation.
Pakistan Railways said most of the passengers were adjusted in another train and already left for Nankana, while arrangements were underway to send the remaining Sikh pilgrims as well.
Meanwhile, federal minister Khawaja Saad Rafique took notice of the incident and constituted an inquiry committee to probe into the incident. The Committee, comprising COPS Safety, CEN Open Lines and CME Carriage would dig out facts about the derailment and submit its report within three days.

It may be added here that Pakistan has issued 2,942 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India to attend the birth celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak, beginning at Nankana Sahib from Sunday.
During their stay in Pakistan, Sikh pilgrims will travel to Dera Sahib, Panja Sahib, Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib.
