NEW YORK: Seven animals have tested positive for the coronavirus disease at the Bronx Zoo.
It happened weeks after a tiger was tested positive at the same zoo. Additionally, four more tigers and three lions have also tested positive for novel coronavirus, most of the animals had coughs.
According to the zoo officials, they were infected by a staff member. “The member was either asymptomatic or it was before that person developed symptoms,” the officials stated.
According to officials, they noticed similar symptoms in other animals as a 4-year-old female Malayan tiger that was tested positive for COVID-19. Her samples were collected from her nose, throat, and respiratory tract.
The officials tested four Mountain Tigers and three African lions that were exhibiting a cough. The testing was done using their fecal sample so the animals did not have to be put under anesthesia.
The tests confirmed the six other tigers did have the virus as well as an additional tiger at Tiger Mountain that never developed a cough. All tigers and lions were doing well and their coughs have greatly been reduced, zoo officials revealed.
A report reveals that pet dogs or cats in the US are being infected after close contact with contagious people.
