A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck Karachi and nearby regions on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the earthquake was recorded on March 31, 2025, at 16:11 PST. It originated at a depth of 19 kilometers, with its epicenter located 75 kilometers north of Karachi at 25.54°N latitude and 67.17°E longitude.
Although no immediate reports of damage or casualties have emerged, the tremors triggered panic among residents. Authorities are currently conducting further assessments to determine the full impact of the seismic activity.
Earlier on Friday, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand, causing widespread devastation. By Saturday, the death toll had exceeded 1,000 as rescue teams scrambled to locate survivors trapped beneath collapsed structures.
The quake wreaked havoc across Myanmar, destroying buildings, toppling bridges, and damaging roads. Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city with a population of over 1.7 million, suffered extensive destruction, with emergency responders racing against time to clear debris and search for survivors.
