KARACHI: A fire broke out on the top floors of an eight-storey building housing offices in Karachi on Saturday, causing panic among the occupants and nearby residents. The incident occurred near Generator Market on Shahrah-e-Liaquat, where a large crowd had gathered to witness the rescue operation.
According to the fire brigade department, six fire tenders and a snorkel were deployed to douse the flames emanating from the top floors of the building. The fire-fighters launched an operation with the help of the snorkel to rescue the people who were stranded inside the building.
Besides that, police and rescue volunteers also took part in the rescue efforts and rescued more than 43 people. According to the Edhi Foundation officials, three people were rushed to Civil Hospital for burn injuries with one in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an investigation is underway. Meanwhile, the fire brigade had successfully doused the blaze, and the cooling process was underway till the filing of this report.
