LAHORE: Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed has said that 12 trains would be closed due to the coronavirus.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed told the media today that the trains would be closed only under safety measures. The coronavirus had destroyed the economy worldwide, he added.
He further said that he did not support a lockdown in the country, but only Prime Minister Imran Khan can decide it.
Referring to the closure of the trains, he said that the passenger load has reduced by 20% in the last few days. The trains would remain closed till 15th Ramadan, but all the closed trains would be operational once the situation recovers.
According to the railway minister, the closure of the trains would cost the Railways about Rs 12.83 billion loss.
Due to coronavirus, a total of 8trains would be closed on 1st April. Trains were not being stopped but suspended he added.
The Federal Minister said that in the present situation, the opposition was taking responsibility and the statements of all political leaders, including Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, were positive.
