LONDON: British singer Zayn Malik’s new album ‘Nobody Is Listening’ has surprised fans as he touched back to his Pakistani roots with a song with Urdu lyrics.
The singer announced a surprise album, titled ‘Nobody Is Listening’ earlier this month. The 28-year-old singer broke off from boyband One Direction and went solo five years ago.
This is now his third full-length album and comes three years and filled with collaborations and singles. It is the 135th most-listened-to artist on Spotify. The 35-minutes long album is another display of Malik’s vocal abilities following in after his first and second albums, ‘Mind of Mine’ and ‘Icarus Falls’.
The singer featured a song in his album called Tightrope paying homage to his roots as it included qawwali-inspired tunes as well as some Urdu lyrics in the background. Malik can be heard belting out some lyrics from musician Mohammed Rafi’s iconic 1960s song ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’.
Malik is being lauded by his fans and critics alike for his experimentation. Many in the YouTube comment section also pointed out that his Urdu diction has improved since his earlier attempts.
This is not the first time he has tried his hand at Urdu. In 2016, Malik’s then-new album Mind of Mine featured an Urdu song titled Flower. His cover of the Bollywood hit ‘Allah Duhai Hai’ from the blockbuster film Race also went viral on YouTube and currently boasts 9.3 million views.
