World Cancer Day is being observed today in different countries as well as in Pakistan, while President Asif Ali Zardari and other leaders of Pakistan have issued statements regarding how cancer is a major disease and how Pakistanis should take measures to stand against it.
It is worth noting that different countries observe World Cancer Day every year on 4th February to generate awareness globally for those who suffer from the deadly disease with the purpose of increasing awareness about cancer, its prevention, and treatment options.
The theme for this year’s World Cancer Day is “United by Unique,” and fortunately, much is being done to bring quality cancer care to countries for which, up until now, it has been out of reach.
Abnormal cell growth in the body’s tissues and organs causes cancer, according to health professionals. This disease is the second leading cause of death globally. There has been a rise in the number of cancer cases that are now being reported in Asia, and health experts believe that poor lifestyle is the primary reason for this.
Cancer statistics in Pakistan
In Pakistan, approximately 180,000 new cancer cases are reported annually. Breast, lung, and colorectal cancers are among the most prevalent types of cancer Pakistanis are suffering from.
