A woman who had sought refuge at a Darul Aman in Abbottabad made shocking allegations of sexual assault, physical violence, and inhumane treatment by the shelter staff during a court appearance, prompting swift action from the authorities.
In a startling statement before the court, the woman alleged she was repeatedly raped while in the shelter.
“They put chili powder in my eyes and covered my ears so I couldn’t cry out for help. The abuse I faced was beyond limits,” she told the court.
She further said the very institution meant to protect vulnerable women had instead become a place of torment and cruelty.
Following her testimony, the court ordered immediate shifting of the victim from the Darul Aman.
Meanwhile, District Police Officer (DPO) Abbottabad Umar Tufail instructed the SP Cantonment Division to conduct a comprehensive, impartial and transparent inquiry into the allegations.
“If any form of negligence, abuse, or criminal activity is proven, strict legal action will be taken against those responsible,” said the DPO, adding that providing justice to the victim will be ensured at all costs.
