KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has asserted that they will not leave Karachi unaided as ‘the city is like our heart and soul’.
Talking to M.M News at the end of Karachi referendum, JI Karachi chief said that nearly 9.5 million citizens have exercised their vote in the referendum. “More than 98 percent of voters have supported JI’s movement,” he claimed.
“Now the rulers must understand that the development of the country is not possible without solving the long-standing problems of Karachi,” he said, adding that demands and grievances of the people need to be forcefully voiced.
He informed that the counting of votes was under process hoped that the counting would be completed by tomorrow. “As soon as the results of the counting are announced, we will hold a public gathering for the future course of action,” he announced.
Naeem-ur-Rehman further said that Karachi’s issues were not part of the national political agenda but the JI was the only party that took up Karachi’s issues for its resolution.
Rehman said that the situation of Karachi is deteriorating now and the City of Muhammad Ali Jinnah has been rendered forlorn and helpless.
He also claimed that none amongst the political parties owns Karachi and its issues, and pointed out that even the PDM power show in the city did not bother to enlist grievances of Karachi people.
