Oil prices in the international market have continuously been declining; however, in Pakistan, the government did not transfer the benefits to the citizens and kept increasing prices in the local market.
As of July 2025, the federal government has fixed the petrol price at Rs. 272.15 per liter and diesel at Rs. 284.35.
On July 16, the government raised petrol prices for the next two weeks by Rs. 5.36 per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs. 11.37 per liter.
As global oil prices have dipped further in the international market, with the average price of Brent oil in July remaining around $68 per barrel, while WTI averaged $65 per barrel, it is expected that the federal government could decrease petroleum prices in Pakistan from August 1 for the next fortnight.
According to a report, the expected cut is likely to be Rs. 6.82 per liter for petrol/Motor Spirit (MS) and Rs. 1.68 per liter for High-Speed Diesel (HSD).
The report said that the federal government is expected to provide relief after multiple hikes over the past couple of months.
