KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Pakistan would buy more palm oil from Malaysia as a compensation.
While addressing a joint-presser with counterpart Mahathir Mohamad, the prime minister said that Pakistan would buy palm oil from Malaysia after their top buyer India banned deals with Kuala Lumpur.
Imran Khan said, “That’s right, especially since we noticed India threatened Malaysia for supporting the Kashmir issue, threatened to cut palm oil imports.”
He also appreciated Mahathir Mohamad for raising voice for Kashmir and its people.
India has repeatedly objected to Mahathir speaking out against its move last year to strip Kashmir’s autonomy. But Mahathir said that he would not retract his criticism of New Delhi’s actions in the disputed region of Kashmir even though Indian traders have urged a boycott of Malaysian palm oil.
Last year, Pakistan bought 1.1 million tonnes of palm oil from Malaysia, while India bought 4.4 million tonnes, according to the Malaysian Palm Oil Council.
