ISLAMABAD: Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Senator Shibli Faraz has asserted that the PTI-led government has evolved a comprehensive mechanism to bring down prices of essential items across Pakistan.
“It will be ensured that essential commodities are available at village level and there should be no shortage of edible items,” he said while briefing media after a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad today (Tuesday).
The Information Minister claimed that the issue of the shortage of essential commodities will be resolved in the coming days. Referring to the availability of wheat, he claimed that the sufficient stock of the commodity is present in the country to meet the requirements of the people.
“The public and private sectors were allowed to import wheat, which has arrived in the country and more is coming in,” he added. He also blamed the Sindh government for the hike in the price of wheat.
“It was unfortunate that Sindh Government ill intentionally halted release of wheat, which resulted in price hike,” he said. He, however, welcomed the recent decision of the Sindh Government to start releasing wheat, which will help control prices of the vital staple food.
Talking about the Roosevelt Hotel, the minister also dispelled the impression that Roosevelt Hotel in New York owned by Pakistan International Airlines has been sold out. “Pakistan has acquired complete ownership of the hotel by paying off its liabilities of about $1,28,000,” he added.
“There is no plan to sell Roosevelt Hotel as it is a national asset. The cabinet was informed that PIA has successfully increased its revenue,” he concluded.
