Amid heightened tensions following a brief military exchange between India and Pakistan, the upcoming tour of the Bangladesh cricket team to Pakistan faces growing uncertainty.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed it is in “active and ongoing discussions” with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the white-ball series scheduled for later this month.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the BCB emphasized that the safety and security of its players and staff remains its top priority.
“The BCB wishes to reiterate that the safety and security of its players and support staff remain the Board’s highest priority,” the statement read. “All decisions concerning the tour will be made with careful consideration of the current situation in Pakistan, ensuring they align with the best interests of the team and Bangladesh cricket.”
According to the original itinerary, Bangladesh is set to arrive in Pakistan on May 21 for a five-match T20I series, with games planned in Lahore and Faisalabad beginning on May 25.
However, the recent escalation along the India-Pakistan border has raised doubts over the feasibility of the tour. Contingency options, including a possible relocation of the series to Dubai, are reportedly under consideration should the security environment deteriorate further.
