Wicked, the much-vaunted film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical, directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo hits theaters in US on November 22.
“Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West”, published in 1995 by Gregory Maguire, tells an untold perspective on Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. In 2003, the story was adapted into the Tony Award-winning musical “Wicked”, featuring iconic songs like “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.”
Now, in director Jon M. Chu’s 161-minute film adaptation, only first part of the stage play will be adapted on screen. While this hasn’t necessarily been made clear by the marketing, this is actually Wicked: Part I.
The movie tells the story of Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, from her birth, which draws attention to the way her emerald-green skin and other appearance traits bring whispers and judgment from people around her.
Cast
Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Bowen Yang, and more.
Where will “Wicked” stream?
As of now, there is no indication of where and when the movie be released on streaming platform. However, being a Universal Pictures production, it is likely to stream on Peacock sometime after its theatrical run.
