In the middle of the ongoing boycott of the movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming movie ‘Pathaan’ is now facing similar outrage on social media as a hashtag has emerged of #BoycottPathanMovie on Twitter. But why?
This year has seen a lot of Bollywood films failing at the hands of public-demand boycotts or bans which has led to witness empty cinemas, low and numbers at the box office.
Why are people boycotting Pathaan?
Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ is not getting a worthwhile response, as social media users have been trending to boycott the movie. The reasons are said to be his old interview video clip where he could be heard saying that there is growing intolerance in India.
Sharing the clip, a user outraged that if India is an intolerant country, then why Shah Rukh Khan is still living in that country?
Intolerance among audience
From Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera to Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and now Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, it looks like Indians are not willing to compromise, even for a widely popular, star-studded cast, they still opt to boycott Bollywood movies.
Boycott trend
The boycott trend comes after a deep dive into celebrities’ past statements, means of popularity, and their current standing. Moreover, such negativity has taken a toll on filmmakers and actors, many of whom have recently hit back at the cancel culture.
