ISLAMABAD: A fire that broke out in the Centaurus Mall, the icon of vital significance for Pakistan’s federal capital on Sunday, captured the attention of social media users in the country and abroad with people posting videos online and forwarding messages to express their sorrow and grief over the incident.
A number of local journalists as well as commoners posted videos showing the magnitude of the blaze, claiming that some of the people including families were stuck inside the mall as the blaze raged on.

Some users, terming the blaze as horrendous, posted prayers for the safety of everyone.

As the trend of #MonalDownTown gathered pace on social media, some users took this opportunity and posted irrelevant content of obnoxious nature using the same hashtag.
Meanwhile, police said everyone was safely evacuated from the mall and not a single casualty was reported.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) claimed that the blaze was doused in two hours’ time with the participation of the fire brigade, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, and Rescue 1122.
