The reason for India’s refusal to play the Asia Cup is nothing other than hostility towards Pakistan. India wants to isolate Pakistan in the world of cricket and has tried to do so in the past as well, but failed.
Now, taking the recent tensions as a basis, India has once again shown its traditional stubbornness and decided not to play both the men’s and women’s Asia Cups.
Another reason is that the current head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is a Pakistani, Muhsin Naqvi who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman.
As per media reports, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to aloof themselves from all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events going forward.
As reported by the Indian Express, the BCCI has informed about its decision to the ACC and will be withdrawing from the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka next month and the Men’s Asia Cup in September.
“The Indian team can’t play in a tournament that is organised by the ACC, whose chief is a Pakistani minister. That’s the sentiment of the nation. We have verbally communicated to ACC about our withdrawal from the upcoming Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and our future participation in their events too is on hold. We are in constant touch with the Indian government,” the Indian Express reported while quoting a BCCI source.
