Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is facing a new crisis as its General Secretary, Omar Ayub Khan, has resigned from his position amid increasing state pressure on the party.
Omar Ayub Khan announced his resignation by tweeting a letter on X (formerly Twitter), though he did not specify the reasons behind his decision. He also wrote a letter to PTI founder Imran Khan.
Why Did He Resign?
Omar Ayub’s resignation has sparked widespread speculation about the underlying reasons. The move comes amid internal conflicts within PTI, where 21 National Assembly members had hinted at forming a separate group.
Previously, sources reported that after Shehryar Afridi’s statement about resigning, over 27 members consulted on resignations. Additionally, members like Shandana Gulzar and Sher Afzal Marwat protested against the party leadership’s incompetence.
It appears that Omar Ayub has become disheartened by the allegations, complaints, and lack of confidence expressed by the party’s National Assembly members.
