Former Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzaq, known for his all-rounder performance in international cricket, recently opened up about his past relationship with famous film and theatre actress and dancer, Deedar.
The former cricket star, who made his debut in 1996 and was part of Pakistan’s victorious ICC World T20 2009 squad, shared insights into the reason behind Deedar’s rejection of his marriage proposal during a recent appearance on sports anchor Shoaib Jutt’s talk show.
Abdul Razzaq, who played 265 ODIs and 46 Test matches, explained that he and Deedar had developed a close friendship and strong camaraderie. According to Razzaq, their relationship had reached a point where they were considering marriage. However, Razzaq revealed that he had given Deedar six months to make a decision about their future together.
“I knew that the decision would come. Actually, I wanted her to leave the film industry and theatre dance,” Razzaq said. “She knew that my family would not accept her profession, but she couldn’t give up her career in the film industry. I then told her that it would be difficult for me to adjust with you along with this profession because we come from a conservative background.”
Razzaq explained that their differing priorities led to their eventual breakup. “Love is always a pure and true feeling,” he added, emphasizing that despite the breakup, he holds no ill will toward Deedar.
Deedar, who has also commented publicly on her brief engagement with Razzaq, acknowledged that things didn’t work out between them. However, she expressed her deep respect for the cricketer. “We decided to part ways, but I hold Abdul Razzaq in high regard and respect him immensely,” she stated.
Abdul Razzaq, now happily married with children, noted that although their relationship didn’t last, the respect between them remains mutual. The cricketer’s candid reflection on the failed relationship highlights the personal sacrifices and cultural considerations that often shape decisions in the lives of public figures.
