The Dhaka-based Pakistan High Commission has removed the cover image of the Pakistan flag with the Bangladesh flag from its Facebook page following the objection of the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It should be noted that the joint flag of Bangladesh and Pakistan was placed as the cover photo of the Facebook page on July 21.
Pictures of Pakistani flag with flags of other countries
It should be noted that apart from Bangladesh, pictures of the flags of other countries have been posted on social media by the Pakistani High Commission, but no such strong reaction has come from anyone.
The countries in which the picture of the Pakistani flag is posted on social media include countries like Singapore, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia.
Pakistan had put up the image of the common flag to show the cordial relations between the two countries.
Bangladesh’s response
A joint picture of the Pakistan and Bangladesh flags on Facebook drew strong reactions from several organizations in Bangladesh, after which the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the Pakistani High Commission to remove the picture.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin told a press conference in Dhaka on Sunday that we did not like this action of the Pakistani High Commission at all, that is why we asked for his removal.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister’s statement
Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin said in this regard that the Pakistani High Commission had sent him a common picture of the flags, which he keeps putting up with other countries, but we did not give him any reply.
The Foreign Minister said that the Pakistan High Commission posted the photo on social media which drew strong reactions, however we are fully satisfied with the Pakistan High Commission’s explanation that they did not do this with any wrong motive.
He said that the Pakistan High Commission thought that if they can put the Facebook cover page with the flags of other countries, they can also put a picture with the Bangladesh flag.
The Bangladeshi Foreign Minister said that the Pakistani High Commission felt that when no other country raised any objection to the image of the flags, then perhaps Bangladesh would not object either.
Why did Bangladesh object to the image of the flag?
According to the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister, we asked for the removal of the photo because we did not want to get into any political controversy. He said that after this photo, many organizations had issued statements criticizing it, saying that it insulted the flag of Bangladesh.
It should be noted that a few months ago, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence, many countries had released a photo of their country’s flag with the Bangladesh flag as a goodwill gesture.
Pakistan removes the image of the common flag
When the foreign minister of Bangladesh was holding a press conference, the Pakistan High Commission had removed the picture with the Bangladesh flag and replaced it with a picture with the Pakistan flag.
