Lahore: After Babar Azam’s resignation as national cricket team captain, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan are also unlikely to lead the white-ball team.
According to details, the chances of wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowler Shaheen Afridi becoming captains are slim.
Earlier this year, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) removed Shaheen Afridi from leadership before the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.
Additionally, the PCB not only removed Rizwan from the vice-captaincy of the Test team but also appointed Saud Shakeel as Shan Masood’s deputy. The national cricket team had already been eliminated in the first round of the T20 World Cup.
Following the team’s dismal performance, reports surfaced that players within the team had formed three distinct groups. Geo News claimed that the PCB is now looking to appoint a captain whose name has not been involved in any controversy.
Last year, after the T20 World Cup defeat, Babar Azam announced his resignation from the captaincy of all three formats. The PCB then appointed Shaheen Afridi as the T20 captain and Shan Masood as the Test captain.
While no decision was made regarding the One-Day International (ODI) captaincy, Babar Azam was reappointed as the white-ball captain earlier this year. This decision was controversial as no consultation was made with Shaheen Afridi beforehand. However, Babar Azam has once again resigned.
