Lahore: The Punjab government, led by Maryam Nawaz, has dismissed four officers, including Adiala Jail’s Assistant Superintendent Riaz Khan and Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, from their jobs.
According to a report by private TV channel Geo News, this action was taken by the Punjab Home Department, and the government has also issued a notification regarding the dismissal of the officers and personnel from Adiala Jail.
The statement indicated that the officers were found guilty during an inquiry into the murder of a prisoner.
The report mentioned that the statement clarified that the officers were dismissed due to their proven guilt in the inquiry into the murder.
The investigation was ongoing regarding the death of a prisoner in Adiala Jail’s mental health cell on February 29, and the Punjab IG of Prisons had ordered an investigation into the matter.
According to the Punjab government’s notification, the inquiry found Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram and seven other employees guilty.
Of the seven, the inquiry recommended the dismissal of four officers, and this recommendation was implemented with their removal from service.
It is worth noting that not long ago, several jail officers and staff, including former Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, were taken into custody for allegedly facilitating Imran Khan at the historic Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. However, Muhammad Akram was later released.
