India’s law enforcement agency, DRI, has arrested an Indian actress at the airport for allegedly smuggling gold. The 32-year-old beautiful actress has showcased her acting skills in multiple films.
The artist, Ranya Rao, known for her roles in various Kannada-language films in South Indian cinema, was arrested at Bangalore International Airport on Monday night upon her arrival from the United Arab Emirates. Authorities recovered 14 kilograms of gold biscuits from her possession.
According to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) of the neighboring country, the actress arriving from Dubai was also wearing 800 grams of gold jewelry separately. Ranya Rao is not just an ordinary actress; she is also the daughter of Director General of Police (Police Housing Corporation), K. Ramachandra Rao.
DRI officials suspect that Ranya Rao is part of a gold smuggling racket that has been active at Bangalore Airport in recent months. The actress has worked in several Kannada-language films, including Manikya and Pataki, as well as the Tamil film Wagah. This suggests that her career is at stake due to the alleged smuggling incident.
The concerning aspect is that along with recovering gold from the actress’s possession, the DRI has also stated that in the past 15 days, Ranya Rao has made four similar trips abroad and has been smuggling jewelry hidden in her belt. This further strengthens the gold smuggling case against her, reducing her chances of escaping legal consequences.
According to Indian media, “Interest in the search term ‘Ranya Rao’ surged on Tuesday evening and peaked on Wednesday morning following the Kannada actress’s arrest at Bengaluru airport for smuggling gold. Most searches came from Karnataka, followed by Kerala, Telangana, Goa, and Tamil Nadu. Related queries included ‘actress Ranya Rao,’ ‘actress Ranya,’ ‘Ranya Rao father,’ ‘Ranya Rao movies,’ and Ramya Rao.”
