The holy month of Muharram has started in Pakistan today. Muharram gatherings in Karachi began on July 7 and will continue until July 17. Due to these gatherings and processions, several roads in the port city will remain closed until July 17. In this regard, the traffic police have issued a traffic plan related to the road closures.
According to the traffic police plan, due to the Bohra community gathering at Tahiri Masjid in Saddar from July 7 to 16, Dr. Syedna Muhammad Burhanuddin Road and Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road will be closed to traffic. Parking for participants will be available at St. Paul’s School and St. Patrick’s Church. Participants can also park near the City Saddar Center and Army Public School.
Traffic from Hasan Square will not be allowed to go to Saddar from the People’s Secretariat; instead, it will be diverted from the People’s Secretariat to MA Jinnah Road. Traffic from Tibet Center will not be allowed to go to Saddar from Capri; it will only be directed to MA Jinnah Road.
Traffic from Regal Chowk will not be allowed to go to Saddar Dawakhana from Priddy Chowk; instead, it will be diverted from Priddy Chowk to the left onto MA Jinnah Road. Traffic from Sarwar Shaheed Chowk and Atrium Mall will not be allowed to go to Lucky Star or Tahiri Masjid Saddar; it will be diverted to Regent Plaza on Shara-e-Faisal. Traffic will be diverted from Shahrah-e-Iraq Paradise Signal to Daudpota Signal and from Murshid Bazar to MA Jinnah Road from Priddy Chowk to the left.
From FTC, Iqbal Shaheed Road, and Lucky Star to Tahiri Masjid Saddar will not be allowed; traffic will be diverted to Carrington Plaza on Shara-e-Faisal and Sarwar Shaheed Road Atrium Mall. Heavy traffic will be prohibited on Corridor 3, Capri Signal, Cantonment Chowk, and Saddar Dawakhana.
It is noteworthy that MA Jinnah Road and all its link roads, including the Saddar area, will remain closed to traffic on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, i.e., July 16 and 17.
