ISLAMABAD: People’s Party candidates from Sindh and Muslim League (N) candidates from Punjab have won the Senate elections.
According to the report of Hum News, the People’s Party won 11 out of 19 seats in the Senate. Muslim League (N) won 6 seats. In Islamabad, both parties won 1 seat each.
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Musadik Malik were also elected senators. Former federal minister Faisal Wauda was successful in independent status as predicted by MQM leader Faisal Subzwari.
The Sunni Ittehad Council could not get a chance to succeed in even 1 seat of the Senate. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the elections were postponed due to the request of the members not to take oath and to postpone the elections.
11 senators of Balochistan have been elected unopposed. From Sindh, the People’s Party won 10 out of 12 seats. Dost Ali Jaysar, Kazim Ali Shah, and Ashraf Ali Jatoi were elected senators on general seats.
PPP’s Masroor Ahsan and Nadeem Bhutto won the general seats while Zameer Ghamro and Sarmad Ali won the technocrat seats. Qaratul Ain Marri and Rubina Qaim Khani contested the women’s seats. MQM’s Aamir Chishti also became a senator.
Panjumal Bhil of PPP was elected senator on the minority seat. The People’s Party emerged as the largest party in the Senate with 24 seats. PTI and Muslim League (N) candidates won 19 and 19 seats respectively.
