KARACHI: Users from different instant messaging platforms have reported partial and full normalization of WhatsApp services in their part of the globe.
Earlier in the day, social media users rushed to some of the instant messaging platforms to inform and inquire about WhatsApp, a p0pular internet based message service, after seeing as ‘not responding’ for a few minutes.
Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages across the globe, showed a sharp spike in the number of users reporting WhatsApp’s outage, and some made fun of it.
The outage lasted for more than an hour after which people from several countries started reporting that the instant messaging service was partially restored.
Soon after Whatsapp went down, Twitter was flooded with the Memefest. Several Twitter users indulged in posting memes.
WhatsApp, it may be mentioned here, has become a critical means of communication for households and businesses. When Whatsapp had an hours-long outage last October, it hit trading of assets from cryptocurrencies to oil, before traders switched to alternative platforms such as Telegram.
A spokesperson for WhatsApp parent company Meta platforms told Reuters earlier today that they are aware that some users are currently having trouble sending messages and they working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.
