January 2025 kicks off with major franchises on Disney+, including the final two episodes of the latest Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, following a group of kids lost in the distant corners of the galaxy.
According to a report by tom’s guide on Thursday, as the first season of Skeleton Crew wraps up, a new animated series featuring Marvel’s Spider-Man begins, and a documentary spinoff from one of Pixar’s lesser-known films returns with fresh episodes.
The month also introduces the Nat Geo series My Best Friend’s an Animal, highlighting unlikely friendships between humans and wild animals. Plus, the second of two new animated Kiff specials, Lore of the Ring Light, makes its debut. Here’s a look at the month’s highlights on Disney+.
‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing’
Goosebumps returns for its second season, based on R.L. Stine’s books. Unlike the first season, it doesn’t continue the same plot. Instead, the series adopts an American Horror Story-style format, offering a new, family-friendly scary story each season, drawing from various Goosebumps books.
In this season, two teen siblings and their friends investigate a 1994 disappearance, while their father (David Schwimmer) begins acting strangely, hinting at a lingering, mysterious threat. Directed by Rob Letterman, who also helmed the 2015 Goosebumps movie, the show is darker and more intense but still suitable for younger audiences.
Premieres Jan. 10 on Disney+.
A Real Bug’s Life Season 2
The first season of this Nat Geo nature series, inspired by the Pixar film A Bug’s Life, used cute adventure narratives with stylized insect footage. Narrated by Awkwafina, the new season continues with five episodes featuring bugs such as a “femme fatale firefly,” a bachelor luna moth, a real-life assassin bug, and more. A special behind-the-scenes episode will showcase the science and artistry behind capturing insect activity.
Season 2 premieres Jan. 15 on Disney+.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Originally announced as Spider-Man: Freshman Year in 2021, this animated series explores an alternate Marvel universe. It follows 15-year-old Peter Parker after gaining his Spider-Man powers, voiced by Hudson Thames. Unlike the MCU’s Spider-Man, young Peter is mentored by the ruthless Norman Osborn (voiced by Colman Domingo). With a vintage comic book-inspired animation style, the series offers a fresh take on Spider-Man’s early years while remaining part of the larger MCU.
Premieres Jan. 29 on Disney+.
