In the ongoing blasphemy and pornographic content case against well-known YouTuber and social media influencer Rajab Butt, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Bilal Haider, has made serious allegations, stating, “This is not just a matter of viral videos but an open attack on the religious, moral, and legal foundations of Pakistani society. Rajab Butt not only disrespected religious sites but also mocked women for cheap fame — an unforgivable crime.”
In an interview, Advocate Haider revealed that the FIA Cyber Crime Wing, in its preliminary report submitted to the court, confirmed that all the controversial videos which recently went viral on social media — sparking public outrage — were recovered from the mobile phone used by Rajab Butt. Additionally, the accused’s phone contained indecent chats with women, recordings of explicit video calls, and other pornographic files, which have been categorized as digital harassment.
A case has been registered against Rajab Butt under Section 295 (blasphemy), Section 509 (insulting women), and Section 20 (cyber harassment) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). Advocate Haider informed that during the initial hearing, the court remanded Rajab Butt to jail on judicial custody, while the FIA has been granted time to submit further forensic evidence and a complete challan. The next hearing is scheduled for July 29.
The case has triggered a strong reaction from religious circles, women’s rights organizations, and civic groups. Hashtags like #BanRajabButt and #RespectMosques have been trending across social media platforms, while several religious seminaries have issued fatwas condemning the content of Rajab Butt’s videos. They have demanded that the state award exemplary punishment to such individuals to deter future violations.
Advocate Bilal Haider further emphasized that this case is not merely about social media misconduct but represents a broader issue of socio-religious corruption. He announced his intent to urge the court for the strictest possible punishment under the law.
It is noteworthy that reports recently emerged claiming Rajab Butt has left Pakistan and gone abroad. He has also temporarily shut down his vlog following the controversy.
