United States President Donald Trump has said his administration will on Tuesday release approximately 80,000 pages of files about the assassination of John F Kennedy, whose killing has fuelled conspiracy theories for more than six decades.
Speaking at the Kennedy Center on Monday, Trump said the release will contain “a lot of reading” about the assassination of the 35th US president, who was killed in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963.
The JFK assassination files, also known as the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection, contain over six million pages of records, photographs, motion pictures, sound recordings, and artifacts related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy .
These records include:
– Investigation documents: Files from the Warren Commission, the House Select Committee on Assassinations, and other investigations into the assassination.
– FBI and CIA documents: Records from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) related to the assassination.
– Autopsy reports: The autopsy report of President Kennedy, including photographs and other evidence.
– Physical evidence: Artifacts such as the president’s clothing, the “magic bullet” (CE399), and other physical evidence related to the assassination.
– Witness statements: Testimonies from witnesses, including those who were in Dealey Plaza on the day of the assassination.
– Government agency records: Documents from various government agencies, including the Secret Service, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense.
These records have been gradually released to the public over the years, with the most recent release occurring in response to Executive Order 14176, signed by President Donald J. Trump on January 23, 2025 .
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is responsible for maintaining and making these records available to the public.
