Former WWE wrestler Sara Lee has passed away at the age of 30, her family has confirmed in a statement on Thursday, Oct. 6.
Before her untimely death, Sara competed in and ultimately won the reality TV series Tough Enough. Along with bragging rights, the professional wrestler was rewarded with a $250,000 deal with WWE.
Even though Sara’s contract was terminated the next year, her fitness adventure continued. The athlete appeared to be in excellent health at the time of her passing. So, how did she pass away? What is known about her cause of death is listed below.
Terri Lee, Sara’s mother, posted a depressing statement on Facebook on Thursday afternoon. “It is with heavy hearts we wanted to share that our Sara Weston has gone to be with Jesus.”
We are all in shock and the arrangements are not finished, Terri wrote in her post. We sincerely request that you allow our family to grieve.
Sara complained of a sinus infection two days before her death, though her cause of death has not yet been made public. In an Instagram post, Sara expressed her happiness at finally feeling “well enough to go to the gym two days in a row.”
Social media was ablaze with condolences from fans and wrestlers alike shortly after word of Sara’s death spread online.
Online tributes to her have been posted by her fellow wrestlers, many of whom have expressed their “horror” and grief at her death.
The most well-known aspect of Lee’s career as a professional wrestler and TV personality in the United States occurred between 2015 and 2016. She triumphed in the 2015 season of the WWE competition program Tough Enough. Participants in the show received training to become professional wrestlers, and one male and one female candidate were declared the winners and given contracts with WWE.
In the sixth season of Tough Enough, Lee competed and she and Joshua Bredl, who competed as Bronson Matthews, won the season.
Born on 7 June 1992, Lee grew up in Hope Township in Michigan, where she spent much of her time powerlifting. In 2010, she received her diploma from Meridian High School and enrolled at Delta College to pursue medical sonography.
Talking with Edward Pevos on the WWE Tough Enough podcast, Lee said: “If the WWE thing doesn’t work out, I plan on being an ultrasound technician.”
After winning Tough Enough in 2015, Lee made her debut in the ring on 30 January 2016 in a six-Diva tag team match. She was released from her WWE contract on 30 September 2016.
Cory Weston, a former WWE wrestler whose ring name is Wesley Blake, and Lee both resided in Florida. Following the birth of their daughter on May 1, 2017, the couple was married on December 30.
The couple later welcomed two more sons into the world: a first boy on February 27, 2019, and a second son in 2021.
