Allu Arjun, the popular Telugu actor known for his role in Pushpa 2: The Rule, has been at the center of a legal controversy following his arrest in connection with a tragic incident during the film’s premiere.
The actor was detained on Friday afternoon after a stampede at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad led to the death of a fan and left her son critically injured. The arrest sparked public outrage and confusion, especially after Allu Arjun was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court later that evening.
According to a report by Indian Express on Saturday, despite the court’s order, Allu Arjun was not released from jail until the following morning, which prompted strong reactions from his legal team.
Allu Arjun’s lawyer has criticized the jail authorities for what he described as the actor’s “illegal detention.” In a statement to PTI, the lawyer emphasized that the detention violated the High Court’s specific instruction to release the actor immediately upon receiving the bail order.
The lawyer expressed intentions to take further legal steps, calling the failure to comply with the order “illegal.” “We will take legal steps,” the lawyer said, adding that the authorities have yet to provide an explanation for their actions.
The police, however, have a different version of events. According to the Hyderabad police, Allu Arjun’s actions allegedly contributed to the stampede, which led to the fatal incident. The police clarified that the stampede occurred as a result of a crowd surge, and they disputed claims of mistreatment during Arjun’s arrest.
The police reported that when they arrived at the actor’s residence, he requested time to change clothes, and there was no use of force or misconduct on the part of the officers. “He was given enough time to interact with his family before he came out and entered the police vehicle,” the Deputy Commissioner of Police stated.
After his release on Saturday morning, Allu Arjun addressed the media, expressing gratitude for the support of his fans and offering condolences to the family of the deceased. “I am well, there is nothing to worry. I am a law-abiding citizen, I respect the law, I will cooperate with them, and do the needful,” Arjun said, acknowledging the tragedy.
He also mentioned that he would support the affected family in any way he could, though he stressed that the incident was beyond his control.
The arrest and subsequent detention of Allu Arjun has sparked widespread debate, with several members of the film industry, including Telugu star Nani and Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, voicing their support for the actor. The controversy surrounding the incident continues to unfold, with many questioning the actions of the authorities and the handling of the situation.
The emotional reunion of Allu Arjun with his family on Saturday morning was captured in videos circulating on social media, showing the actor embracing his wife and children. Fans and supporters have rallied around the star, expressing solidarity amid the ongoing controversy. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to assess the events leading to the tragic stampede.
