The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather advisory forecasting significant meteorological changes across various districts from April 8 to 11.
The affected districts include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali. These areas are expected to experience dust storms, thunderstorms, and rainfall during this period.
According to the PDMA, temperatures are anticipated to rise by 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal, leading to intensified heat conditions, particularly in the province’s plains. The authority advises the public to take necessary precautions against heat and potential heatwaves. Individuals working outdoors during peak afternoon hours are especially urged to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses by staying hydrated, wearing appropriate clothing, and taking regular breaks in shaded or cool areas.
In line with directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, the PDMA has issued alerts to district administrations to ensure preparedness for any emergencies arising from the forecasted weather conditions. Departments including School Education, Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government, and Livestock have been notified to remain vigilant and implement necessary measures to mitigate potential impacts. Additionally, the Information Department, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Punjab Police, and Civil Defense have been alerted to stay prepared for any contingencies.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia emphasized the importance of public safety during this period. He advised citizens to seek shelter in safe locations to protect themselves from lightning strikes and to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and severe weather conditions. In case of emergencies, individuals can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129 for assistance.
The PDMA continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety guidelines to minimize risks associated with the anticipated weather events.
